Do Not Come!

This post is an ANGRY post dedicated to all the Lebanese visiting back home and nagging about it. To those I say: DO NOT COME!

Wataniya

Let me start by saying that everyone is welcomed here, Lebanese or foreigner. Nevertheless, any visiting Lebanese should be positive and constructive about his visit back home. If you are not a positive person then this post is for you.

Yesterday a friend of mine on Facebook posted a status urging the Lebanese visiting Lebanon this summer to stop nagging about the country. This snowballed a series of comments and reactions arguing with and against it. So below is my take on these Lebanese planning to visit Lebanon this summer.

First of all, Lebanon is a 3rd world country, so live with it. Should you decide to dismiss this fact then DO NOT COME!

Nagging about the pollution, traffic jams, queuing, power cuts, or any other problem you face in this country does not make you ‘special’ UNLESS you plan to do something to make things better. If you plan to bitch about it, then please DO NOT COME!

We (living here) do not need you. You only make the traffic worse, consume more power from the grid , establish longer queues, and congest our pubs and malls. I am sure that you like to convince yourself that wherever you come from is better than here, let it be Dubai, Montreal, Sydney or California. Stay there please, DO NOT COME!

Let the foreign tourists come instead, they at least spend enough money here to help the economy. We’re expecting 2 million tourist this summer. As for you, keep on sending your ‘Flous’ to your families without the need to visit. And please realize that nagging negatively about Lebanon just to convince yourself psychologically that living abroad is better, is the oldest trick in the book. It is a good trick that is fake but will surely make your pathetic soul feel better. So feel free to nag while abroad and DO NOT COME!

The political situation is a mess, war with Israel is imminent, everything is very expensive. If you can not afford these facts, embrace them and make the best out of them then DO NOT COME!

Finally, should you feel an unbearable urge to vent about the problems when you visit and need to have a positive look at the country, then you know where to find me. I would be happy to help. Should this be your case, we can do this over a phone call, no need for you to visit, so please call and DO NOT COME!

Easy there tiger.
It is clear you don't want people "to come" anymore :p

I am Lebanese, I live abroad and yes I nag when I go to Lebanon and I will keep going to Lebanon and you will have to put up with my nagging whenever you come across it :)

Anyway, why are you so bothered? it's called "constructive criticism ", we all need it at some point.

Another thing, Lebanon needs "us" to keep visiting. The money people spend on vacations there is at least 60% originating from Lebanese tourists' pockets who already have families in Lebanon.

On the other hand, believe me, if my parents were not living there, my visits would decrease from 3 or 4 a year to maybe 1 every couple of years. I would be happy to spend my money somewhere I get value in return (Goa...Ibiza...Europe...).

Also, everybody stops nagging when we move away from city life in Lebanon... Believe me, nobody could nag about Faqra, Faraya, Ashkout, Aajaltoun, Annaya, Klayaat...

We are just as Lebanese as you are. You used to live abroad and you know.
We do want to come back. The only thing we nag about is that between visits we don't see any change encouraging us to come back.

If your son was about to graduate, I am sure you would advise him to go for the first opportunity that helps build his career.
Remember, we're not deserters. We are Lebanese for more than 10 years.

Another thing, I am sure the single ladies in Lebanon would want the guys living abroad to still come, even if they nag; otherwise 70% of those ladies will have trouble getting married and having families.

I'm bringing you flowers on my next visit to cheer you up :)
Peace.
